4 Summer Cocktail/Mocktail Recipes

Summer is officially here and there is nothing better than sipping on a cold bevvie in the hot weather. I wanted to share four cocktail recipes and their mocktail alternatives for those of us who don’t love the added alcohol.

Margarita

This Margarita uses Wild Orange essential oil, which adds a hit of citrus to it without being overpowering.

Prepare a mason jar of Limeaid prior to making your margaritas. For those who choose a non-alcoholic version, substitute Limeaid for Tequila.

Limeaid Recipe

5-7 Limes
1/2 C sugar or honey

Juice the limes into a bowl, you will have about 1/2 C of lime juice. Transfer juice and rinds to a large pitcher. Bring 1 C of water to a boil in a saucepan and add the 1/2 C sugar or honey. Stir until dissolved. Add syrup to the pitcher and add 4 C of water. Refrigerate for 1 hour. Remove rinds before serving.

Mojito

I fell in love with Mojitos years ago. While they can be super sweet you can cut the sweetness by (obviously) cutting down on the added sugar.

Mocktail It!

It’s super simple to mocktail a Mojito. Simply leave the rum out of this recipe! If you’re unfamiliar with what “muddle” means, it means to crush the mint leaves.

Moscow Mule

The Moscow Mule has become popular in the last few years. They are traditionally served in copper mugs.

Ditch the Vodka and use 4 oz of ginger beer instead.

Sangria

Sangria offers the feeling of living in the south of Spain without actually being in the south of Spain.

You can substitute non-alcoholic wine or juice for the wine. If you are looking for a non-alcoholic wine, go for a medium-bodied fruity wine. Swap out the Triple Sec for ginger beer to add some bubbles and more flavour.

Water & Oils DO mix!

Admittedly, I often default to adding my favourite citrus oil to a glass of Perrier or even tap water. A few of my favourites to try out are Wild Orange, Lime, Lemon, Tangerine, Grapefruit, Peppermint, Cardamom, Spearmint, Pink Pepper, Green Mandarin, and Ginger.
