Autumn Diffuser Blends

Is anyone else as smitten with autumn as I am? The colours, sweaters, crisp air, apples, crock pot meals, pumpkins, and shorter days. It’s the season where the world starts to prepare for slumber and it’s when the homebody in me does a little happy dance.

I’m so glad I live in a world where there are Octobers.

I find that rituals get laid down this season too. Gone are the care free summer days where we chase the sun from morning until night. Our family turns inwards and our focus is on gathering, time together, and the daily routines we abandoned in June. I become more consistent with my use of essential oils by making sure our diffusers are filled each morning and refilled in the afternoon, and I find myself leaning towards using oils that are spicy and warm.

When you walk into our home in fall, you are met with the aromas of Wild Orange, Douglas Fir, Cassia, Cinnamon, Clove and Siberian Fir.

You can use essential oils to bring the feeling of fall into your home. Most people think of essential oils as a means of supporting a health concern, but they can also be used to create an inviting atmosphere with the different seasons.

Why diffuse essential oils?

Diffusing is the most popular way to use essential oils. It’s by far the easiest way to use essential oils and it’s the reason I encourage people just getting started to invest in a diffuser in the beginning. When you breathe in an essential oil, the the limbic system of your brain is activated which is connected to memory. In fact, your sense of smell is the most powerful sense you have and the human nose can distinguish one trillion different aromas.

How to create essential oils diffuser recipes.

Here’s a little secret about essential oil blends….you literally can’t mess it up. Part of the fun of using essential oils is experimenting with different blends to create your own unique combinations. dōTERRA essential oils are potent and you only need 2-4 drops in a diffuser at a time. However, when I’m creating blends, sometimes I like to add in a few more drops to deepen the layers of the blend.

My favourite fall oils to work with are Cinnamon, Clove, Wild Orange, Siberian Fir, Black Spruce, Douglas Fir, OnGuard, Frankincense, and Eucalyptus. Start by taking two or three of your favourite fall oils and creating a combination. If you feel you need more citrus, add an extra drop in. If you feel it’s lacking some spice, add two drops in. Half the fun is finding something that you love!

I put together some of my favourite blends for you that we use in our home to enjoy throughout the autumn months. Print a full letter-size copy, available for download in my Wellness Library, or pin to refer to on your phone.

    How to clean your diffuser.

Diffusing essential oils can leave a residue on the inside of your diffuser. Especially when you use heavier oils like OnGuard, Vetiver, Cassia, and Cinnamon (some of my fall favourites!). Every couple of weeks, remember to give your diffusers some love and give them a good clean. You can watch MY VIDEO HERE on how to do that.
