The Best Diffuser Blends to Put A Little Magic Into Your Holidays

Whether you are full on holiday mode or struggling to get into the spirit, these diffuser blends will meet you where you are at and bring a little magic into your day. For me, the holidays are a mix of spice, citrus, and tree oils. They make up perfect aroma combinations that evoke memories from childhood of baking cookies and the glow of the lights on Christmas eve. Why diffuse essential oils?

Diffusing is the most popular way to use essential oils. It’s by far the easiest way to use essential oils and it’s the reason I encourage people who are just beginning with oils to invest in a diffuser. When you breathe in an essential oil, your limbic system in your brain - which is connected to memory - is activated. Not only can this help recall past memories but it will help you lay down new ones. {As a note, Rosemary is exceptional for recalling memories!}

Why essential oils over candles?

Most candles use harmful ingredients that are emitted into the air as they burn. Ingredients such as Acetone, Trichlorofluoromethane, Tetrachloroethene, Chlorobenzene, Ethylbenzene, and more. The next time you pick up a scented candle from a store shelf, look at the ingredients! The aromas in scented candles are also synthetic. Essential oils are safe and are all natural which do not harm you or your family when diffused. For the furry members of your family, it’s always smart to keep a diffuser in an open room, which allows animals to leave if the aroma bothers them.

If you can’t give up candles, look into soy candles that are created with dōTERRA essential oils in them or make them yourself!

What oils to blend for holiday aromas?

This is where the fun begins! Creating your own holiday blends is totally up to you. I tend to stick to the three oil families of trees, spices, and citrus but you can throw in mints and herbs too! Try creating a blend from the list below and create your own diffuser magic!

TREE oils: Frankincense, Myrrh, Siberian Fir, Black Spruce, Douglas Fir, Cedarwood, Eucalyptus

CITRUS oils: Wild Orange, Bergamot, Citrus Bliss

SPICE oils: Cardamom, Cinnamon, Clove, Cassia,

A reminder to clean your diffuser!

Every two weeks, on Sundays, I give my diffusers a little love. Cleaning your diffusers on a regular basis will prolong their use and help them function at their best. Fill your diffusers with 50/50 vinegar and water solutions. Let sit for 4-5 minutes. Dump out the solution and dry with a soft cloth. Pay attention to the disc in the middle to avoid build up of residue from thicker oils. PRO TIP: Put a reminder in your calendar so that it’s top of mind every fortnight.
